Welcome to Stevens Elementary School
Where every child grows, learns, and thrives.
Our mission at Stevens School is that we believe every child can grow, learn, and thrive in a safe and caring community. Together, we guide students to do their personal best, act kindly, make wise choices, and put safety first—every day, in every way. We are committed to nurturing responsible citizens and lifelong learners by building strong relationships, celebrating effort, and creating a place where everyone feels valued and supported.
A Whole-Child Approach to Learning
Every day, we aim to deliver exceptional learning experiences that help students build independence, responsibility, emotional intelligence, social skills, and strong academic foundations. These competencies are essential for students as they grow into lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.
As PAWSitively Proud Huskies, we live out our values by encouraging all students to:
Do their Personal best
Act kindly
Make Wise choices
Put Safety first
These guiding principles are embedded in the fabric of our school culture, shaping how we teach, support, and celebrate our students each day.
Restorative Practices and Community Building
We believe in the power of relationships. Restorative practices are central to how we build community, repair harm, and support student growth. Through morning meetings, class circles, and reflective conversations, we help students develop empathy, accountability, and a sense of belonging. These practices strengthen connections between students and staff, foster respect, and create a learning environment where everyone’s voice matters.
When challenges arise, we take a restorative approach focusing not just on what happened, but on how to make things right and move forward together. This approach helps students learn from their actions, rebuild trust, and re-engage as contributing members of our school community.
Positive Culture and Student Success
We use a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework in combination with restorative practices to promote a culture of kindness, accountability, and mutual respect. Our PAWS values guide daily expectations and are supported through consistent teaching, modeling, and celebration.
Students are recognized for demonstrating positive behaviors through classroom celebrations, morning shout-outs, and other forms of acknowledgment that reinforce their growth. By combining PBIS with restorative approaches, we cultivate a strong sense of responsibility, belonging, and pride throughout our school.
Academic Focus and High Expectations
Our academic program is focused on building strong foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. As a Title I school, we uphold high standards for all students and provide personalized instruction to help each learner meet their goals.
Through a blend of whole-group instruction, small-group work, and individualized support, our educators ensure that every student is challenged, engaged, and empowered to succeed. We place special emphasis on developing skilled readers who can think critically and communicate effectively across content areas.
A Team Committed to Excellence
Our students are supported by a dynamic and talented team of 46 certified teachers, along with dedicated full- and part-time staff members. We provide a wide range of services to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of our students, including special education, academic intervention, guidance, and social work support.
Our faculty fosters a nurturing and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to take risks, develop confidence, and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our History and Growth
Stevens School has a proud history of serving its community since its opening in 1957. Built in three phases, the original structure began with 12 classrooms and served 288 students. In 1967, a significant expansion brought a library, stage, cafeteria, and 13 additional classrooms. The final phase came in 1975 with the construction of the Anthony A. Morganti Gymnasium, shaping the school as we know it today. We now serve more than 400 students in kindergarten through grade 3 across 19 classrooms.
A Recognized School of Distinction
We are proud to have been recognized by the State Department of Education as a 2024–2025 School of Distinction for high performance and greatest improvement. This honor reflects our commitment to continuous growth and excellence, and it celebrates the hard work of our students, staff, and families.
At Stevens School, we’re more than just a school—we're a caring, connected community. We invite you to join us on this journey of growth, discovery, and PAWSitively proud success!
